A Bronx man accidentally killed himself with an NYPD officer’s gun while playing video games with the cop Easter morning, a police official said.
Frederick Afoakwah, 21, picked up the weapon that Housing Bureau Officer Martinson Afariyeboahm had placed on a coffee table inside Afoakwah’s apartment on Mosholu Parkway near Jerome Avenue early Sunday. As Afoakwah inspected the gun it fired a bullet into his neck, the official said.
Afoakwah was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The NYPD suspended Afariyeboah without pay, pending the results of an internal investigation.
The officer could not immediately be reached for comment.
