Addiction Treatment Services in NYC Strained by Coronavirus Outbreak

The coronavirus outbreak is spurring alarm among New York City’s addiction treatment workers and opioid-dependent patients, with long lines forming outside city methadone clinics, Naloxone reportedly more difficult to access, and group addiction therapy continuing in some facilities—despite the risk of contagion.

Plagued by Opioid Crisis, Bronx Again Led City in Overdose Deaths in 2018

In 2018, Bronx residents also had the highest rate of overdose death compared with all other boroughs. The rate increased by 9 percent from 31.4 per 100,000 residents in 2017 to 34.1 per 100,000 residents in 2018, according to the data compiled by New York City’s Department of Health.
