Former presidential candidate Andrew Yang has opened up a double-digit lead in the Democratic primary for New York City mayor, a new poll shows.
The poll, conducted by Fontas Advisors and Core Decision Analytics, found Yang garnering early support from 28 percent of likely Democratic primary voters.
The poll found his closest competitor was Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, with 17 percent.
Yang, who is currently battling a COVID-19 infection, has made fighting poverty amid the pandemic a focus of his mayoral campaign. He joined the crowded race for mayor last month.
Yang’s nonprofit organization last year said it was cutting at least $500,000 worth of checks to low-income families in New York City impacted by the coronavirus, with a focus on the working poor in the Bronx.
