A NYPD officer shot in the back in the Bronx Tuesday night is expected to make a full recovery, authorities
Daniel Vargas, 31, a seven-year veteran of the police force, was shot during a stop of a suspect in Soundview, during which police initially opened fire, authorities said.
“[He was] shot by a criminal carrying an illegal gun, and amazingly and thankfully, our officer is expected to make a full recovery,” Police Commissioner Dermot Shea told the press Wednesday.
Vargas is a member of the department’s Gun Violence Suppression Division, tasked with taking illegal guns off the streets.
