A new affordable housing complex, featuring 96 apartments for formerly homeless New Yorkers with special needs – as well as low-income people – is coming to Fordham Heights.
Builders last month broke ground on the facility at 2050 Grand Concourse, which planners said will feature on-site mental health and HIV services, plus amenities like a 10,600 square foot community space and two landscaped rooftop terraces.
Unique People Service, a nonprofit organization, will provide health services at the facility, the planners said.
Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, who spoke at the groundbreaking, said lives of future residents would be “transformed.”
“This is a place that will be their home, but also a place of security, to lift them up out of poverty, to give them a sense of community,” Hochul said.
