A 19-year-old man was indicted for murder and manslaughter Tuesday, accused of stabbing a 20-year-old victim to death in Fordham Heights last year, authorities said.

Edwin Portes, 19, of New Jersey, is accused of killing Giovanny Pimentel in a random attack on Dec. 21, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.

Portes allegedly stabbed Pimentel in the chest without provocation, plunging a knife into him near University Avenue and West 181st Street about 2:30 a.m., prosecutors said.

Pimentel died the following week.

“During an unprovoked attack, the defendant stabbed the victim in the chest, leaving him brain dead,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a written statement. “The victim’s family made the tortuous decision to remove this 20-year-old man from life support. We will pursue justice for the heartbroken family and friends of the victim.”

Pimentel’s attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
