Con Edison on Thursday was still working to restore power to Bronx residents after more than 23,000 customers lost electricity in the borough due to Tropical Storm Isaias, authorities said.
The storm’s strong winds and rains clobbered the city’s overhead electric delivery system, with trees and branches damaging power lines and utility infrastructure across the five boroughs.
About 260,000 customers lost power citywide during the storm, surpassing the 204,000 who lost electricity during Hurricane Irene in 2011, the utility company said.
The city’s record for power outages caused by a storm is 1.1 million, a total reached during Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
About 50,000 customers were still without power across the city Thursday.
