A 69-year-old man was found beaten near his Bronx home Friday and later died, a messenger bag full of cash in his possession, authorities said.

Police found Cesar Mejia unconscious near Pelham Parkway South and Bolton Street, a serious gash in his forehead and extreme bruising to his body, according to the NYPD.

Mejia lived a short walk from the intersection and was carrying $3,000, plus his possessions, in the bag.

Doctors pronounced him dead at Jacobi Medical Center. An autopsy will be conducted to determine how Mejia died.

Anyone with information is asked to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
