Unemployment Rate Spikes in Bronx, Reaching Depression Era Levels: Data

The unemployment rate in the Bronx has reached a level comparable to the Great Depression due to job losses during the COVID-19 pandemic, new data show.

The rate stands at a startling 24.7 percent as of June, higher than the citywide unemployment rate of 20.4 percent, according to newly released statistics from the state Department of Labor.

By comparison, the unemployment rate is 16 percent in Manhattan, 20 percent in Brooklyn, and 22 percent in Queens, the data show.
