A woman died during a power outage in Co-Op City Friday when her portable oxygen tank ran out as she climbed the stairs to the 19th floor, authorities said.

The tenant, 73, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been made public.

The blackout impacted multiple buildings, authorities said. It stemmed from an underground transformer fire reported in one of the sprawling complex’s basements shortly after 10 a.m.

Full power was expected to be restored Saturday morning.
