State: New COVID Testing Center Launched at Tres Puentes in South Bronx

New York State on Wednesday announced the site of its new South Bronx center for COVID-19 testing— the first such facility in America’s poorest congressional district.

Coronavirus tests will be administered by appointment only at Tres Puentes Communtiy Health Center, a facility operated by the Urban Health Plan, at 271 E. 138 St.

Roughly a month into the coronavirus crisis, New York State has been criticized for not making COVID-19 tests more accessible to low-income communities of color, which have been disproportionally impacted in the Bronx.

Tests at private medical facilities also remain scarce in the borough, and New York City hospitals are currently only testing patients who require hospitalization.

For an appointment, sick New Yorkers should call 311 or the state COVID-19 hotline at 1-888-364-3065.
