The MTA will lengthen overnight service hours on the subway starting next Monday, the agency announced this week.

Beginning Feb. 22, the subway system will be closed for two hours, from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m., instead of the current closure period of 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

The system wide, overnight closures began last spring, so that cleaning crews could sanitize trains and slow transmission of COVID-19.

The MTA has not said when the subway will return to 24-hour service.
