The unemployment rate in Bronx County fell to 18.8 percent in September, the highest number in New York State, new government data show.

Despite being down from 24.7 percent in June, the borough’s current unemployment numbers remain comparable to those calculated during the Great Depression—a result of widespread job losses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In comparison, the unemployment rate is 11 percent in Manhattan, 14 percent in Brooklyn, and 14 percent in Queens, the data show.
